Jayme Van Erden (Women’s Champ) of the Reston Masters and Charlie Tupitza (Mens Champ) of the Warrenton Masters Swim Team took top honors this year at the 2010 Crawl and Brawl sponsored by the Sunfish Masters in Manassas. Charlie won each of his swimming events and Jeremy did well in his sprint events. The Sunfish Masters are hosting a swim meet November 27th at the Freedom Center in Manassas. Its a lot of fun. Todd and Julie Did well at the Patriot Masters Sprint Classic. I wish I could say the same about Troy and I. We swam faster times in the middle of practice the following Tuesday. The event is always fun and you can find the Results Here. November 6, 2010: VMST 30th Annual Fall Swim Meet Location: Virginia Beach, VA

With only 5 swimmers we took 9th of 40 teams! We ruled the fly events! See results under Events > Swim Meets > Results > 2010 Colonial Zone Championships… Above. Go to: Events > Swim Meets > Preparation > My First Swim Meet above. We had a blast at the Sunfish Masters Crawl Brawl held Saturday at the Freedom Aquatic Center in Manassas, VA. There was a Distance Championship for those that Swam the 200, 500, and 100 free as well as a Sprint Championship for those that swam the 25, 50, and 100 free. They meet named a male and female champion for under and over 50. My friend Betty Perfall and I won the over 50 Sprint Championship. Troy, Todd, and Jeremy Swam with me at the meet. At the end they had a plunge contest. You took a dive from the starting block with the objective of seeing who could go the furthest without breathing and without kicking or pulling. The top two women beat the top male. That was a lot of fun. I was able to break our 25 free record. Todd Goins, Troy Holland, Kami Whitney, Charlie Tupitza Jeremy Worst,Julie Dawley, Stephanie Strong, and Heather Finch all have great swims at the 2009Patriot Swim Classic. We had a fantastic meet while breaking or setting 26 new team records! Records were set in all strokes and the IM. As always the Patriot Masters Swim Team did a great job hosting this swim meet and attendance was good. This is a great swimming pool to race in as the water temperature is nice and cool and there is little turbulence. It is one of the last time that the USMS will allow technical suits at a swim meet so there were a lot of those being worn. Kami had five, Heather two, Stephanie set three, Julie five, Todd two, Jeremy two, and Charlie set five newrecords. The National Guard is currently seeking the whereabouts of Mike the Mail Man as he was not present. I saw a great improvement in streamline starts and turns. Jeremy got under 54 for the 100 free and Heather set lifetime bests in all her events! This is so important in a sprint. Although we haven’t worked much on off strokes I see that we have good butterfliers, backstrokers, and breaststrokers. Our next swim meet will be at our home pool the WARF on November 22 at 1:00 when we take on the Reston Masters Swim Team for a just for fun dual meet. We will follow the high school swim schedule for events but we will be skipping the 500 free and 400 medley relay events. Warm ups will start at 12:30 and we will have a swim social at Kami’s house after the swim meet along with the Reston Masters Team. Simon will be making some of his famous home brew for the party. This is one of our favorite meets. We have reduced our efforts at practices this week to get us ready. It’s a good idea to cut down on caffein now and get good nights of sleep. Drink lots of liquids and stay away from all the sick folks running around. There were 200 kids missing at school today and several sick ones in attendance so the flue is making its rounds. Many have asked about the right thing to eat the night before the race. Specifically I’ve been asked about carbo loading. From all I have read it appears that the best thing to do the night before our race is to make sure you get a good balance of protein a little bit of carbs with fresh steamed vegetables. |
